The engineers at Martin Company are experts in:

Analog – Martin Company’s first projects were analog circuits, and most of our projects still interface to the analog world. Sensor development and signal conditioning before conversion often require attention to analog design techniques.

Digital – We have maintained a leading-edge capability in digital technologies as they have evolved over the last two decades, including CMOS, ECL, FPGA and PALS. We began by using 4000 series CMOS for seismic systems because of its extremely low power. We have designed memory test systems with ECL. Martin Company engineers design most systems today using FPGA technology because it reduces inventory, is very versatile and can be reprogrammed after product release to accommodate changing market requirements.

Processors – We are third-party certified consultants for both Microchip Technology Inc. and its PIC®microcontroller, and Texas Instruments Incorporated and its TMS320™ series DSP components. Most systems today use embedded microcontrollers with real-time software, usually written in C and assembly. Our software engineers also have extensive experience with the implementation of RTOS (Real Time Operating Systems). We first employed the HP-85 as a computer to implement a system design, and the 80C51 was the first embedded microcontroller used at Martin Company, so we have a rich history with processors.

Intrinsic Safety – Intrinsically Safe devices are designed and certified to be incapable of causing combustion in explosive environments. We successfully design and produce several of these devices for industrial clients. Intrinsically Safe designs have encouraged the formalization and standardization of our design processes and documentation.

Shock/Vibration – High shock and vibration packaging is often required in down-hole designs. Martin Company’s experience includes testing both with sinusoidal vibration and high shock sources. We are familiar with the packaging approaches required to withstand high shock and vibration environments.

Power Supplies – Martin Company’s experience includes the design of both switch mode and linear power supplies.

A/D and D/A – Our engineers design a wide variety of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. Our design experience includes flash, successive approximation register, integrating, and delta-sigma 24-bit Analog to Digital converters.

Batteries – We design battery chargers, depassivators, intelligent batteries, and battery disposal devices.

Micro-power – Our well-logging and seismic designs employ electronics that consume tiny amounts of current, either to operate at high temperatures or to conserve battery life.

Communications (Digital and RF) – Martin Company’s extensive experience includes many standard protocols for Communications (Digital and RF). RS-232 is still available on most personal computers and is the most common digital communications standard. We use RS-485 for longer distance and higher speed communications. CAN bus communications originated in the automotive industry, but it is now also being used at high speeds. 220 MHz is the band most commonly used for seismic data telemetry. Spread Spectrum bands at 928 MHz and 2.4 GHz are most commonly used on a non-licensed basis for data telemetry.

Measurements – Martin Company engineers design electronics to measure H2S, flow, corrosion, pressure, strain, vibration, temperature, cable stretch, and a multitude of other physical parameters.
